Empties Time! (January)

empty beauty products

Ed's note: No Weekly Happy List for this week, I'll roll everything over into next week's list.

I know I said in my first ever empties post that I was going to be publishing these posts bi-monthly; but as you can see from the photo above, my empties box was quite full at the end of January & I needed to make way for the next stash of empties, otherwise shit's just gonna get out of hand.

Let's see what I finished up:

empty beauty products

Avené Thermal Spray Water
Yeah I know it's glorified spring water out of a can; but IDGAF because this is really nice & refreshing on a hot summer's day, even if that feeling doesn't last long. Repurchase? Already have.

H2Coco Coconut Oil
I know coconut oil is a multi-purpose product, but since I used this jar for beauty purposes, I'm throwing it in my empties pile. I used mine to make my body & lip scrubs, but I also put a bit through the mid-lengths & ends hair on occasion & it wasn't bad. TBH coconut oil is so ubiquitous these days that it really doesn't matter to me what brand I use. Repurchase? If it were on special I guess.

LAVANILA Vanilla Summer Body Butter (review)
I've already reviewed this, so I won't say anything more other than I LOVE IT! Repurchase? Yes, but not for now since I'm using something else. Besides, I go through these tubes far too quickly!

Burt's Bees Coconut Foot Lotion
Looooooooooooooove this stuff! Even though it's a bit thick & rich for summer, I still pop it on from time to time to keep my feet in good nick. It's the best foot lotion, I swear. Repurchase? Just did during the 40% off sale in Priceline last week!

Trilogy Cream Cleanser
My staple cleanser and long-term favourite. I'm bummed that I finished it just before the aforementioned sale though, but thems the breaks. Repurchase? Already have, always will methinks.

Space Candles Caramel, Vanilla & Sugarcane Candle
OMG this candle is sooooooooooo good! If you're a fan of Tahaa from Glasshouse, then this is pretty much a dupe; although I'd argue that it smells more sugary sweet than Tahaa. Every time I go to Paddington Markets in Sydney I can't go past the Space Candles stall without having a sniff or buying several of their candles. For all my Sydney peeps, these guys also have a stall inside Birkenhead Point shopping outlet; but for those of you who live outside of Sydney, never fear me dears, you can purchase their delicious candles online. Repurchase? Yes, but not for a while as I have other candles to go through first. I'm keeping the jar as Space Candles recycle them for you.

Colgate Sensitive Pro-Relief + Whitening
Colgate really ought to give up on making sensitive toothpastes because they're a bit shit if I'm honest. The only good thing about this toothpaste was I noticed my teeth getting a bit whiter as time went on. I've gone back to Sensodyne's whitening one because it seems to be the only toothpaste that works for my sensitive teeth, even though it tastes a bit like Butter Menthols. Repurchase? I think you know my answer.

Kit Moisturising Nail Polish Remover
It did the job & smelt like lemons, which surely beats the smell you get from the more traditional nail polish removers. I've got a feeling this may have been discontinued as I couldn't find it in Mecca when I needed it. If not, then it doesn't matter because I've found a suitable alternative that works better than this stuff. Repurchase? Even if I could find it, no.

Nivea Anti-Perspirant Invisible for Black & White roll-on
I do like this - it keeps me much drier than my previous Dove deodorant, even now that we're nearly at the end of summer in Australia. The heavy fragrance may turn people off though, but it does subside after a while. I have noticed my underarm skin is feeling drier & maybe a little more irritated since making the switch; but given that this stuff prevents me from being a total sweaty Betty, I can live with that. Repurchase? I bought 2 at once, onto my 2nd roll-on as I type.

Trilogy Very Gentle Moisturising Cream
I dig this a lot, even though I don't tend to use it as much during summer as I find that my skin feels overloaded once I apply this + my face oil of choice to my skin. I do use this as my "primer" so to speak, so it serves a dual purpose for me. I really ought to buy a proper primer though, tsk tsk. Repurchase? Of course I did...just last week actually...;o)

WOTNOT Normal/Sensitive Facial Wipes
Really like these too. I did try out the ones from Eco Care last year, but I found they weren't as good as these + they slightly irritated me. These ones don't irritate me and that's why I'm stickin' with 'em. Repurchase? Yet another item you saw in my Priceline 40% off skincare haul post.

Manicare 4-Way Buffer
I'm getting rid of this because the filing side has lost its grit. Repurchase? No because I want to move on to something else.

Essie - Blanc
If you read my Project Polish update post, then you'd know my thoughts about it. If you haven't, then all you need to know is I didn't like it. Repurchase? No.

Skinstitut Age Defence SPF50+ x2 (samples)
Didn't like this at all. This thick-ish creamy sunscreen felt heavy on my skin & reminded me of sunscreens I've used & detested in the past because of their greasy feel (hence why I ended up with skin cancers!). Admittedly I used this over 2 consecutive days of high humidity, but I could feel my skin sweating through the sunscreen & that to me isn't a good feeling, regardless of whether you're a sweaty Betty during summer (which I can be a little) or your skin type (mine's sensitive-combination-dehydrated). I'm glad these were just samples & not a full sized bottle. Repurchase? Even Blind Freddy knows the answer to this question.

Ciaté - Amazing Gracie (mini - not finished)
I've already crapped on about why I hate this polish, so I'll spare your eyes from any further rantage. Repurchase? Not even a million dollars would make me buy this rubbish ever again.

Essie - Good To Go (not quite finished)
I do love this base coat for its shine + fast drying properties, but I do have a negative to point out. I'm not sure if it's just me, but as soon as I hit halfway with this stuff, it begins to thicken up and get a bit stringy when I wipe it off the side of the bottle. It's a pain in the arse & no matter how many times I apply nail polish thinner to the bottle, the problem keeps repeating itself. *sigh* Despite all of this, I still love it; but I would like to cheat on it with some alternatives. Repurchase? Already have, but I will switch at some stage.

Aaaand to finish off, a new section that I was inspired to create after reading an empties post of Kats':

Every monthers/already mentioned in previous empties:
Botani Olive Hand Cream
Cetaphil Suntivity Liposomal Spray SPF30+

I'm honestly astounded at how much I used up last month. If only every month were like this!

Did you do better than expected with empties in January?

  1. I love thermal water sprays/mists! I know it's just the same as any old water but it's got so many uses! I particularly enjoy using them to dampen my beauty blender or just to refresh my face after the gym :)

    1. Nice! I generally just spray it on my face & body when it's hot outside & I need to cool down, but you're right, they have so many uses. I sort of get why people hate on them though, but as I said I don't really care. If I think something's nice, of course I'm going to use it!

  2. I haven't been to Paddo for ages & I live closish to Birkenhead, yet don't go as often as I'd like. I'm going to check out Space candles, thanks for the tip! (I'm misfortune8 from bh, you probably recognise the avatar)

    1. Oh I recognise you, don't worry. ;o) Do check them out, they've got some really nice smelling candles - something for everyone methinks. I've got too many favourites, I'll be here forever listing them all!

  3. I'm a fan of the Avene Thermal Spray Water too! It's so refreshing in summer and after exercising.

  4. Nice bunch of products there Shell, and there's barely any I've tried so this post is extra helpful to me ♥ And thanks for the trip down memory lane - I used to live in the Eastern Suburbs, and the Paddo markets was a regular haunt, I miss it real bad xxx

    1. Store this post in your memory bank for future purchasing ;o)

I live nowhere near Paddo markets, but I like to go there sometimes for a visit. I can see why you'd miss it though, it's a nice spot.

Feel free to comment, but all I ask is that you don't spam, troll, abuse others, ask for a follow-for-follow or post nonsense. Let's play nicely. :o)
