My Intentions For 2017

2017 intentions

Hola mi amigas & happy 2017!

For my first post of the year, I'm gonna talk about my intentions for the year ahead. (I know I'm a bit late with all of this, but whatevs.) Not resolutions, not goals, but intentions. As I mentioned in last year's intentions post (of which I only achieved 2 or 3...oops), I loathe the words "resolutions" & "goals" because (a) the former can be easily broken & (b) the word "goals" freaks me out for some reason. At least with intentions, I can put it out there without so much pressure to fulfil them.....that's how I see it!

Here's what I'm aiming to achieve this year, starting off with...

*Take those damn makeup & hair courses I didn't take last year. Whilst I kinda sort of achieved my "play around with my hair more" intention last year (I didn't do the Battle of the Curling Wands series for nothing you know!), I still don't know how to straighten my hair properly without assistance, nor wield a round brush without getting myself into a right ol' tangle. I'm hoping to rectify both of those issues sometime in 2017...and also learn how to do a multi-hued eyeshadow look without feeling like a numpty.
*Pan at least 1 (if not 2) perfumes from my stash before buying any more. I've got a sizeable scent stash & a few of them are on the older side, so I'd like to either get through those or a couple of my rollerballs before I add to my collection. I'm itching to get Paco Rabanne's Olympea, but I can't justify it when I have so many others to get through.
*Commit to buying more cruelty-free products & educating myself on cruelty-free brands. I've been thinking about this a lot lately. I'm going to sound like a hypocrite here when I say that whilst I'm neither vegetarian nor vegan, I am someone who claims to be against animal cruelty (why do that when there's plenty of perfectly good & healthy humans who can do that sort of work?) & yet I own polishes from Essie & OPI (neither of whom, I believe, are cruelty-free due to their parent companies). I have no doubt that I own other beauty prods within that non cruelty-free spectrum, but I also own a lot of other stuff that is cruelty-free thankfully....and that's where I'm aiming to spend my $ this year. I know there are plenty of cruelty-free beauty brands out there; it'll be a case of sorting the wheat from the chaff & trying my best to stick to it, although I may slip up along the way.
*Pan a couple of older lipsticks. I'm looking at you, Fig & Vidal from Bite Beauty's discontinued Luminous Créme range.

*Try at least 1 new trend, provided it suits my body shape/colouring etc. I've never been one to jump on board seasonal trends too much (I prefer sticking with classics & trends that have gone the distance), but I will be on the hunt for stuff that I know I'll wear in years to come, regardless of whether it's still around or not.
*Inject more colours into my wardrobe other than navy & blues. These colours are what I tend to wear the most & whilst I like/đź’™ them, I sometimes find myself looking at my wardrobe thinking "you really do wear the same colours all the time". I'd like to inject a bit more red into my wardrobe, as well as incorporate jewel-toned colours like emerald & amethyst, taupe, greys (light & charcoal), plum & fuchsia. I know they're all colours that suit me & my winter/Clear & Cool skin. EDIT: I know I originally mentioned white & black here; but looking at my wardrobe, I've realised I actually don't own much black or white clothing & that navy & blues actually dominate my wardrobe instead. I'd like to change that this year.
*Finally buy a pair of heeled ankle boots + a winter dress or 2. They're 2 things that are missing from my winter wardrobe & I want them oh so badly.

*Try something new. I've had this one on my personal list for several years now & it's the only intention I've fulfilled each year, probably because it's open-ended. I've already fufilled it for 2017 by trying a green juice that I made myself, with kale (which I tried last year for the first time), baby spinach, celery & apple. P.S. It didn't taste half as bad as it sounds.
*Become fitter & more active. Going travelling last year made me realise just how sedentary I am in my everyday life. Even though I wasn't lifting weights or doing anything crazy, just the simple act of walking around cities all day erry day was enough to make me drop a few kgs, all of which I'd put back on by the time I got home (thanks cruise!). I'm not planning on dieting; I just need to move my body more, that's all.

*New template, por favor! Let's face it, this blog looks far too blue, even for my liking. It also doesn't look terribly professional either. If I want people to take this place more seriously (and therefore want to follow me), then I need something that not only looks better on the eye, but actually makes people inclined to stick around. Granted, sharp writing skills help too; but as I'm slowly learning, a part of what makes a blog successful is the aesthetic.
*Move from Blogger to self-hosted Wordpress. I've begun to get jack of Blogger for too many reasons to delve into here. I figure if I'm going to change how my blog looks, I may as well go the whole hog & move at the same time.
*Start writing & scheduling more in advance, instead of at the last minute. I managed to do this in either June or July last year & it made me feel so good getting 3 weeks worth of blog posts scheduled well in advance. I know I only post twice a week; but as mentioned previously, I have an atrocious procrastination habit which clashes big time with my orderly, perfectionist side. This habit also has me chasing my tail from time to time, scrambling to complete posts on either Sunday or Thursday in order to have it up by the following day (because that's the schedule I've committed to, dammit!). It's a kind of stress that I really don't need to put myself under, but I also know I can't force myself to write if I don't feel like it. Balancing both sides will be key for me this year.
*Start going to blogging events. Which means that I need to...
*Get this blog a Facebook page at least! One of my intentions for 2016 was to drag this blog kicking & screaming onto social media & I still haven't done it. My biggest excuse as to why I haven't done it is because I'm not proud of how my blog looks (lame I know), but I've decided that this year I really need to grow some lady balls & just do it & forget about all that shit.
*Look at participating in blogging groups. Which will happen if I get my blogging arse into gear.
*Score myself a ticket to Sydney's Beauty Expo in August. I've always wanted to go to it but since it's a trade & media only event, I as a pleb haven't been able to get access. Maybe now I might have that chance.
*Keep blogging for myself. Sarah from Bows & Pleats mentioned this in her goals for 2017 post & it made me remember to add this point to my own list. Whilst I haven't had many opportunities come my way just yet, I have had 1 pop up in recent months & although I didn't accept it, it helped remind me that the voice behind this blog is mine, first and foremost & that I need not be railroaded into accepting offers that I'm unsure of, all for the sake of "exposure". I'm also going to try & not stress too much over stats, numbers & followers either because at the end of the day, all that matters is that I do this for me & my own enjoyment.

What are your intentions for 2017?

  1. Sounds like a rich and fulfilling year ahead! Look forward to seeing what you come up with.

  2. I love that you call these intentions. Good luck achieving them, though I believe you will! xx

    1. Calling them intentions certainly eases the guilt in my mind if I don't achieve them. ;o)

Feel free to comment, but all I ask is that you don't spam, troll, abuse others, ask for a follow-for-follow or post nonsense. Let's play nicely. :o)
