Hola mi amigas & happy Monday! Hope you guys had a great weekend & hope my American readers are having a nice long weekend. If any of you have missed an empties post, you can find them through the Empties tag.
I didn't finish a whole lot in July so I rolled everything over into August instead, where I finished up a couple of items I'd really focused on + at least 1 ol' favourite.
Let's get crackin':
Pros: This is nice & hydrating & it doesn't always absorb quite so quickly as, say, thermal water does. Cons: A full-sized can is exxy in Australia (I think it's about $25 or something for the 200mL size - it's dearer than Avène, I know that) + I've recently discovered that Caudalie aren't cruelty free as they are stocked in mainland China. That for me is a big no-no. Unfortunately Avène are also not cruelty-free, but I'd be more willing to purchase a large can of their thermal water than a smaller can of this stuff. Repurchase? Nup.
Wagner Probiotica probiotics
These babies & I just didn't get along sadly. Whilst I'm fairly used to taking probiotics, I think jumping from 30 million "good bacteria" up to 50 million was a step too far for my gut as I experienced discomfort from taking these more often than not. Either that or they may have contained dairy (something I have issues with) after all. I'm going back to my old dairy-free ones ASAP, if I can find them. Repurchase? No, no way.
Inika Loose Mineral Powder Foundation (Grace)
My foundation of choice, although it's more out of necessity as I've struggled finding one that suits my skin & personal ingredient tastes. Props to Inika for changing the packaging of this foundation because I've often found that I couldn't get out what little foundation was left from the old sifter. Now the new removable sifter will allow me to use up every last skerrick of product. Repurchase? Already have.
Carmex lip balm
Another non cruelty-free item in my stash, except I am going to continue using this on the proviso that it's the only lip balm I've found that will work for my lips when they're in crisis, which they have been since the weather turned cooler in mid-March. I'd love to go back to using Lanolips' 101 Ointment + Bite's Agave Lip Mask, but I know what will happen if I do...and it ain't pretty. Repurchase? Already have.
Glasshouse Rio de Janeiro large candle
Ladies & gents, meet my favourite Glasshouse candle. She's tropical & bursting with fruity goodness. She's also got an amazing scent throw & her orange wax makes me dream of warm summer days. Repurchase? You bet!
Karuna Hydrating+ Face Mask
I've been holding onto this baby until the weather got cooler, just so I could see whether it was hydrating enough or not. I've used one before & thought it was ok, but that was whilst away in Singapore last year. Now that I've used it again I can tell you that it's fairly hydrating, but my 2nd mask wasn't as packed with serum as the first one was. In one way it was a bummer since I was kinda looking forward to using up the excess serum over several days, but in another it was a good thing as I didn't find it a chore to use up. Repurchase? Not sure.
You might remember this from my July Favourites & it continued to be a favourite until the very end, although I was kind of alternating between this & the Essano body lotion I purchased recently. I should've never strayed from this though as it felt pretty luxe on my dry winter skin. I've got 1 more Pacifica body butter to use up & I think I'm going to struggle with it as I'm not fussed on its scent. Then again, I felt the same way about this one at first, so my opinion could change. Repurchase? Probably. I really liked this scent & how soft my skin felt.
Karuna Renewal+ Eye Mask
I really enjoyed this! Out of all the sheet masks I've used from both Karuna & other brands, this is the only one that stayed put on my face. Mind you, there wasn't as much serum in this as the other ones, but it certainly cooled my under eye area & left it feeling very hydrated. I don't think it did anything for my dark under-eye shadows & I don't suffer from puffy eyes, but I'd highly recommend this mask to girls who are prone to puffiness in that area as it (should) do you a whirl of good. Repurchase? Maybe, if only for a special occasion.
Ego Sunsense Sensitive Invisible SPF50+ (small tube)
Ladies & gents, meet my new favourite sunscreen. Unlike the crappy original Sensitive version I reviewed last year, this doesn't leave a major white cast on my skin, it absorbs well & doesn't make me look too shiny. It also seems to work quite well under makeup - I've tested it underneath Bare Minerals' Complexion Rescue & have not been burnt once. Repurchase? Already have + I'm still going through a larger tube.
Lanolips Rose Everyday Hand Cream
Another staple in my beauty diet & something I doubt I'll ever be without. Repurchase? Er, did you see my recent skincare haulage?
La Mav Jojoba Bead & Argan Oil Exfoliant
My (physical) exfoliant of choice. I do like the creaminess of it, but I'm beginning to question whether or not I should continue using it as I tend to still have bits left over on my face after I wash it off. I also have a tendency to use too much of it at once, so that could be why. Repurchase? Maybe. I've got 2 other physical exfoliants to get through first, but I'm also kinda keen to try Pixi's new-ish Peel & Polish exfoliant too.
Nivea Invisible for Black & White roll-on deodorant
Another semi-regular used up product. I've liked this for a while & have been happy to continue using it, but I've since discovered another anti-perspirant deo that I'm kinda liking....even though it isn't cruelty-free. Then again, neither is this. Repurchase? No.
Aspect Extreme C20 serum (travel size)
I've finally finished this baby! I've been using this on & off for a while due to my well-documented issues with Vitamin C products/serums (FYI for those TNL newbies: my skin reacts/turns red & hot whenever I use a Vitamin C product), but I think I've found a solution that my skin can tolerate. I've been using 1 pump of this every morning mixed in with 3 drops of The Ordinary's Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 serum & they seem to be working well together. However, because my usage of this has been so stop-start, I haven't seen any reduction in pigmentation nor any noticeable signs of age defiance; although I did notice my skin looking a bit brighter one morning recently. Also, a full-sized bottle of this product costs over $100 & even a half-size bottle is around the $50 or so mark, so I'd be hesitant about buying it again. Wouldn't knock back a sample though. Repurchase? Probably not.
Lacura Cotton Makeup Remover Pads
These IMO are the best cotton rounds out there. They're fluffy & soft, but don't fall apart too easily. Both my Mum & I use these, so it's hard to tell whether I used them up on my own or it was a shared effort. Repurchase? I know I've got several more packets lying around.
Caudalie Micellar Cleansing Lotion
Straight up, this is a pretty good micellar cleanser. It seemed to pick up more dirt than my usual Essano micellar water does. However, it does smell pretty strongly of grape water, it did irritate my eyelids when I've had to remove eye makeup & it's not cruelty-free. It's also expensive to purchase here too - I think from memory it's about $40 & even if I wanted to buy it again, that price tag is a turn-off. This is the last of the Caudalie items I've purchased both here & overseas & if I'm honest, even if they were CF I'd still think they're an overrated brand, just based on what I've bought from them. Repurchase? Nup.
Uriage Thermal Water
You might remember this one from the Priceline skincare haul I lugged home recently. I went through this tiny arse can pretty quick due to my face heating up a fair bit throughout August & I've gotta say I miss my cans of Avène's thermal water. This was like spraying sea water on my face + the small amount that was in it (50mL) was a bummer, not to mention that the spray nozzle began to leak upon the last couple of uses. Repurchase? No. Sorry, but I think I'm going back to Avène, despite its non-CF status.
I'm throwing out my last Botani Olive Hand Cream because it had well & truly expired by the time I bought it & although I used up 1 of my tubes, I noticed irritation when I went to use the 2nd tube, so time to chuck it. I'm miffed about wasting my money on it tbh.
I'm also throwing out my older Bite Beauty lipsticks (the Luminous Créme lipsticks I've been wanting to pan, aka Fig & Vidal + the High Pigment Pencil in Bouquet) because one of them gave me a nasty cold sore-like growth on my lips after I last used it. It's time to start on the ones I bought last year/more recently.
The last item being thrown out is my Eye of Horus Goddess Mascara as it has begun to dry up. I've had it for a while & have continued to use it without any issues (I go by feel rather than rules when it comes to cosmetics in general - I know, I'm naughty), but now its time for it to go in the bin. I've got a replacement waiting.
It's Monday so you know what time it is - time to hook up with Monday Makeup Madness.
