In numerous ways, 2017 was not only a bad year for the world, but also a not-so-great one for yours truly. Between some minor physical health issues + my mental health sliding downwards, by the time I got to December 31st, I was more than ready to leave 2017 & all its horror behind. The fact that I was felled by a gastro bug on New Year's Eve & didn't make it to midnight, let alone any festivities, summed up my year in a rather telling way methinks. (I'm better now, thankfully.)
But enough with all the doom & gloom because that's not what this post is all about. Despite the misery, 2017 wasn't entirely bad. There were still nuggets of hope & positivity to be found & that's what I'm going to share with you today. Most of these will be from a personal perspective, although I will share one other thing that made me happy in an indirect kind of way too.
*Going to beautyheaven's 10th birthday party & meeting up with members. It was a fun day, albeit one that went by too fast.
*Getting out of Sydney briefly & heading north to the Gold Coast. I hadn't been there in close to 10 years & clearly a lot had changed (although Cavill Ave is still a touristy hell-hole, let's be honest). If you're about to go there or are keen to know more, then check out my small guide to the GC.
*Doing something altruistic this past Christmas by participating in Share The Dignity's #itsinthebag campaign. Although Christmas isn't my favourite time of the year, I know that I have it better than most people & after the year I'd had, I really wanted to engage in the true spirit of the silly season; so decided to give something back to the community. My Mum & I did 1 bag each full of goodies for both a teenage girl & a woman & it's something we'd like to do again this year, albeit on a larger scale.
*Australia finally legalising same-sex marriage. I don't like to get too political in general (whether it be IRL or on this blog), but this was one thing I'd been hoping would happen in Australia for years now & couldn't understand why it hadn't happened already. Sure, we didn't need to waste $100 mill+ doing it (not when the answer was staring Canberra in the face the whole time), but at least now we can finally join so many other countries that have legalised it. Oh & FYI, the sky hasn't fallen in & the children are more than ok.
*Making some health & lifestyle changes once Spring rolled around. This is something I haven't spoken about at all on the blog, but I've undergone a slight transformation by losing close to 5 kgs between September & the present. Although I haven't lost a drastic amount of weight, I can feel it in my clothes & I also feel a heck of a lot better in them. I'm pretty proud of my achievements, so excuse me for tooting my own horn. (P.S. There's no special diets, or weight loss secrets here - just simply moving my butt more & lessening my intake of crappy foods.)
*Getting out of Sydney for Christmas/New Year & heading on a cruise. I'll be talking more about that in the weeks & months to come, so sit tight & be patient with me.
*Getting to a couple of gigs. Last year I finally got to see Lorde for the first time + also saw Muse for the 2nd time. Both gigs were good, but I think I preferred Muse's just a tad more because I got right into it (although I could've done with all the dickheads pushing in front of me & other people just to get closer to the stage...sigh...next time I go to a gig I think I'll be sitting, I'm getting too old to be standing up).
*Making it to my 2nd bloggerversary. That in & of itself is an achievement.
