Empties Time! (April/May)

After March's pretty epic effort, April & May were a bit slower on the empties front, probably due to being away on holidays. I found it a bit difficult to finish stuff up but nevertheless was determined to finish up some things that had either been bugging me for a while, or I just wasn't that fussed on & really wanted to finish.

Here's what I finished in April & May:

bhave super nova elixir
I've already bitched about this in a recent post, so I won't go into it here again in case you've already read my rant. Repurchase? NO!

Swisse Multi-Vitamin Repair Body Oil
This was one of the things I purchased as part of a beautorium order I made last year. Whilst I noticed a slight difference in the appearance of stretch marks on my upper thighs, I wasn't overly fussed on the scent of this (or should I say, the lack of a scent). If anything, it smelt a bit like sesame oil & the idea of slapping something that smells like cooking oil on my body is a turn-off. Repurchase? Probably not, despite the positive.

Lanolips Rose Everyday Hand Cream
A staple empty for me, not much to say here other than you guys know I love this stuff. Repurchase? Have got 2 tubes still lying around, but I'll give it a rest for now & use my Botani hand creams instead.

Essano Gentle Facial Cleansing Micellar Water (100mL size)
This empty is a bit of a cheat since I decanted the rest of this bottle into my larger bottle but hey, I still reckon I would've finished the contents of this one during April anyway. Repurchase? Already have.

Ego Sunsense Sensitive Invisible SPF50+ (small tube)
See the May section for more info....

Palm Beach Collection Summer Berries small candle
I stopped burning this a while ago so I can't remember what I really thought of it, which I suppose is rather telling. I think this was a limited edition candle that came out last Summer. From memory, it was nice & pleasant, but not all that strong in terms of scent throw. Repurchase? Nah.

Also throwing out my Bite Agave Lip Mask. I haven't used this for a while due to a sudden reaction & tbh it's on its way out anyway.

Ego Sunsense Sensitive Invisible SPF50+ (large tube)
My sunscreen of choice these days & one I tend to go through quicker in the smaller tubes. There's still a bit left in this but it has started to get a bit watery & hard to squeeze out, so into the bin its going. Repurchase? Already have in both sizes. The smaller tube is handy for keeping in my handbag.

Essano Gentle Facial Cleansing Micellar Water (200mL size)
And whaddya know, I finish the larger bottle a month after finishing the smaller one. Nothing to say here that hasn't already been said above. Repurchase? Already have.

Botani Olive Hand & Body Cream
An old favourite & regular empty returns! I still enjoy using this stuff, but I'm thinking maybe the Lanolips hand creams have stolen this hand cream's former HG mantle. Repurchase? Still got 2 to go through; after that who knows.

Lanolips Coconutter Intense Hand Cream
Ah I love this stuff! Seriously nourishing for my hands & the coconut scent is divine. My only gripe is the tube is so skinny that you could go through it quickly (and it's not cheap either), but luckily for me and my wallet I've been using this as my handbag hand cream. Repurchase? Already have.

Swisse Rosehip Moisturiser (travel/sample size)
Straight up: I'm glad I only got this in a goody bag because I really didn't like it. I'm not a fan of the thin consistency as it doesn't offer my skin much in the way of moisturisation (I normally add a couple of drops of facial oil to it to bump up the moisture factor) + it makes my T-zone break out if I use it there. Pretty sure this is high in cetearyl alcohol which, whilst it's a moisturising alcohol, I still react to in high doses. So glad to be getting rid of it. Repurchase? Heck no!!

Healthy Essentials Dairy-Free Probiotics
A regular empty of mine; I go through them quicker if I take 2 a day (which happens on occasion) as opposed to 1 a day. Repurchase? Already have, always will.

ONNE Balancing Body Balm (small size)
This body lotion wasn't too bad in the hydration department, but there were several negatives. Firstly, the pump packaging. More often than not I had to open up the bottle to get any product out as the pump would always clog up after about 2 or 3 pumps. Sometimes I couldn't even pump anything out at all, which was highly irritating. Secondly, this product was also difficult to get out of the bottle, especially towards the finish line. I'm pretty damn sure there's still product left in there; but I just can't, for the life of me, get it out, no matter how many times I tap the bottle against my palm or another body part. I think these negatives have to do with how thick the body balm is to begin with & I won't lie, its thickness did ensure some difficulty in spreading it all over my bod-eh. I feel like it'd be better off being housed in a jar due to its thickness (and yes, I know all you germaphobes would freak out if it were, but if you had my issues then you'd understand my suggestion). Repurchase? Nononononononono.

bareMinerals BAREPRO Performance Wear Liquid Foundation in Fair 01 (sample)
I had this sample lying around for about 6 months waiting to be tested & I finally got around to testing it at the end of May. The girl at Mecca warned me that this was very white and, well, she wasn't wrong. Honestly, I looked like a mime wearing this, and that says a lot given how fair I am! For once, I wouldn't have to choose the lightest shade in a foundation & I'm kind of rejoicing about that....or I would be if this foundation wasn't so cakey. I also found it somewhat difficult to blend & given that it wasn't the right shade for me, in the end it all came off. Repurchase? I've considered getting a sample in another shade just to get a colour match, but in all reality I'm not a huge fan of full-coverage foundations, especially ones that give you cake face; so no, I won't be getting another sample, nor would I purchase this stuff. Quite disappointing, especially since I'm a BM fan.

Glasshouse Fragrances Saigon mini candle
This is one of the last scents (possibly the last) I had yet to try from this beloved Australian candle/homewares brand. Containing lemongrass (its main scent), lime, bergamot & (perhaps) orange, I felt that this would be right up my alley as I adore citrus scents. I didn't mind this, but I do feel that the mini candles pack less of a punch, as opposed to the larger ones. Repurchase? Not in this size, but maybe in the larger size.

Lanolips 101 Ointment Coconutter
💙💙💙 this stuff, can't live without it, need more backups plz. Repurchase? I've got 2 on the go atm, will repurchase once they're finished.

Into the bin will go a whole bunch of loose pigment eyeshadows from Alima Pure (middle left). They're almost 4 years old & I never use them as they're a PITA to use + I've found that even with a primer, they barely show up on my eyelids. It's not worth keeping them around as I neither like nor use them, so they're being tossed out.

Also tossing out my black Eye of Horus Goddess Mascara (far right). This is my staple mascara & I still enjoy using it, but I have had my latest tube for a while & it is starting to dry out. I'm one of those naughty people that uses mascara for longer than the use-by date - I go by the feel of the mascara on my lashes & whether or not it's beginning to flake (which this one is). I'll definitely repurchase it, but not for a while as I have 2 other mascaras waiting to be used, including EOH's Bio Lash Lift mascara. I'm also throwing out my tube of their Metallic Liquid Eyeliner in Alchemy Gold (middle right) as it has begun to dry out & has developed a detectable chemical-like scent. I'm surprised it has lasted as long as it has, given it had already expired by the time I received it in my beautorium order last November. I rarely used it and tbh it's not my favourite shade (I find the Imperial Bronze liner pops my blue eyes more than the Alchemy Gold), so I won't repurchase. Still, I'm glad I got the opportunity to try it without having to part with too much coin.

I'm also chucking out my bottle of Essie's All-in-One base & top coat (far left). I've had it for close to 2 years & whilst I haven't finished it, it has started to turn & get too thick, despite thinning it out. I won't be repurchasing this as Essie are not cruelty-free & I have some new cruelty-free base coats I'm keen to try out.

What are your packaging pet peeves?

  1. Shame about those eyeshadow. Hopefully they weren’t too expensive.

    1. I bought the majority of them in America many years ago. I can't remember how much I paid for them, but I know they weren't cheap sadly.

  2. I'd love to try the Lanolips Coconutter Intense Hand Cream, the coconut scent would be akin to a tropical island holiday I reckon! Well done finishing all those,my bunch for May is a lot smaller!

    Di from Max The Unicorn

    1. Try it, it's absolutely divine! It does smell a bit like a tropical holiday, or straight up coconut oil; but it's not an overpowering scent. It's also really moisturising, which is great for this time of year. Lanolips now have a body cream out in the same scent, but I'm not tempted to get it as I'd go through the tube quickly.
